I was trying to tell my thirteen year old daughter what it was like for me to chat with other people online when the internet first came out. She did not understand that it was really important for us to talk about teen chats because we were trying to have a conversation about what was safe and what was not. I told her that we could not follow a person by their ip address back then but today people could go and find where you live just by looking at the footprint that you leave when you respond to one of their texts or messages. I wanted to make sure that I could talk to her openly and I told her that I did not want her to friend people that she did not know. I was speaking with her about he different things that could happen to her and she said that she did not believe me.
I showed her a video on one of my favorite news programs web sites to show her what happened when a girl friended a person that she did not know.
