At the prompting of Ali Edward's blog, I'm documenting our Easter now before I forget how sweet it was.
Our celebration actually began on Thursday, with Kevin and I both getting to leave work early (our office closes early the day before a holiday). I spent two hours in the studio creating some wedding orders, and working on some new ideas I’ve been noodling. I also stole 15 minutes to work out (gasp).
Friday we attended the twins’ birthday party from his class at school. Hosted by Chic-Fil-A, the party was a lot of fun and Owen was really well-behaved for his first real toddler birthday party. I was proud.
Saturday morning gave Owen his first real Easter egg hunt with the neighbors; something I would like to make into an annual tradition. And while he took the award for leaving the little kids with absolutely no chance or opportunity to gather any eggs of their own, he had a blast. And too much sugar which resulted in a major mid-day meltdown and a much needed nap.
Easter Sunday 2009 began with an early Mass (or as Owen liked articulated, “We’re gonna get our Mass on.”). I got to play dress up with Kate and put her in the adorable outfit from Aunt Diane, and the precious new hat I purchased from the sweet Bridget & Co. We arrived at St. Philip in the nick of time – the place started filling up just minutes after we took our seats in the back. Owen was a perfect gentleman, for about the first 15 minutes. Then he realized that he could go explore under the pretenses of “going potty” with Daddy. Kate caught some zz’s in her car seat, until the urge to be held overwhelmed her, and I got to cuddle with her for the last 30 minutes of Mass.
Off to the inlaws with covered dishes in tow. Our menu for the day was sublime, and completely undid all the no-carb work that Kevin had achieved over the past three weeks. A peek at the lineup:
Appetizers
Mimosas (just OJ for me since I’m still nursing)
Philly Balls (a family holiday tradition)
Strawberry Brie Bites (a spin on the Thanksgiving tradition)
Monkey Bread
Main Course
Honey Dijon sliced ham
French Toast Casserole with organic maple syrup
Steamed asparagus
Scrambled eggs with chives
Fresh strawberries
Dessert was pecan pie but none of us had room for it. Owen hit a wall around 2 pm, and shamelessly informed us he needed a nap. By 4 we were on our way home, got ready for bed, and the kids were asleep by 7:30. Of course, Kate was awake again in 30 minutes for her feeding, but that’s ok. Between the sugar rushes and the carb loading, I took some time to remember what the holiday was for, and what we were actually celebrating. It was a Happy Easter indeed!
