Big boy checkup

O had his 3-year-old physical this morning, and in good time too, as he's had a terrible cough lately. He was such a big boy. He had his blood pressure taken, had to pee in a cup (that was fun for me as I had to hold him over the potty and catch it), and had his reflexes checked. Quite different from what we're used to, especially now with Kate.

Doc wanted to do a blood test instead of sending him to the allergist for an allergy stick test (thankfully). Unfortunately they had to take blood from a vein - I think I was more scared than he was. But he didn't flinch. And he didn't cry. Of course, he looked at me with the saddest eyes ever, but he was such a big boy about it. I was terribly proud.

The entertainment highlight: you know those little covers that docs use over their instrument to look up your nose/in your ears/etc.? They make great little 'fingers' on wee hands. Owen had five of them, one on each finger, and started singing this song: "Five little monkeys sitting in a tree / teasing Mr. Crocodile 'Can't Catch Me' / Along came a crocodile, quiet as can be / Snap snap snap those monkeys in the tree (clap hands together so the little plastic covers go flying)." Hilarious.

That is so sweet. What a big boy to not cry. I swear, they took blood from my oldest a couple years ago and you would have thought they were trying to kill her. She freaked and had to have a nurse and me hold her, then the needle popped out of the vein and they had to start over, ugh. It was horrible! Glad he did good!
